04/08/90 W-Net national hub moves Hayes 9600 modem to dedicated
NetMail node in order to improve traffic flow.
W-Net welcomes The Caves BBS in Santa Cruz, CA
PRODIGY conference is dropped, HOBBIES conference is added.
05/05/90 W-Net welcomes the Chinchilla Appreciation Society of America
based in Honululu, Hawii. Aloha!
Micronet BBS gets USR HST modem which gives us full-spectrum
coverage: Hayes, USR HST, PCPursuit, Starlink, and MERIT.
NetMail v5.0 becomes officially designated release for W-Net.
07/16/90 W-Net national hub gets Hayes Ultra 9600 v.32/MNP5 modem
Updated REMOTE.DOC to contain entire list of HUBs, oops!
09/16/90 GNOMON conference is dropped, AMIGA conference is added.
New conference live from Saudi Arabia called SAUDI is added.
W-NET has its 1st anniversary! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO US!
11/01/90 Added Desert Shield link to G.I.s in Saudi Arabia. Included
WHYWNET.DOC from "Caller's Digest" magazine article.
04/01/91 War is over, so D_S and SAUDI conferences have been
dismantled. W-NET national hub install second Hayes Ultra
v.32/MNP5 modem. Added MUSIC and MULTTASK conferences.
MULTTASK is about the many multitaskers available and how
to use them. Many new affiliate BBSs.
05/01/91 RECOVERY conference dropped and NETWORKS conference added.
The NETWORKS conference will be hosted by a Novell Certified
Engineer, but will cover other networks too. W-NET hub adds
a third node at 313-663-0649 (1200/2400 baud). Channel 8250
quits without telling anybody. Hoboken City Lights (NJ) and
The Wright Place (MD) become new hubs.
07/01/91 Removed information regarding the MERIT network from the
distribution WNET*.ZIP file. If you are affiliated with a
college or university which can connect to MERIT, call the
HAL 9000 BBS and I'll try to get you some help.
Added the SHAREWAR author support conference, try it out!
The PC-PIX BBS in Ann Arbor, Michigan joins W-NET.
08/22/91 Added WNET.DIR to the WNET*.ZIP distribution file. This is
a ProcommPlus directory file with many of the WNET BBS phone
numbers in it. Bring up your ProcommPlus directory and hit
"X" to eXchange directories. Hoboken City BBS drops out.
Erwin Associates BBS in Rochester, NY joins as new hub.
Removed outdated and irrelevant PCPursuit and Starlink signup
information from REMOTE.DOC
10/09/91 The MAC and NETWORKS conferences were dropped due to lack of
popular demand. The HIFI and VIRUS conferences were added
by request of several sysops. HAL 9000 gives away a 250 disk
Shareware Library in commemoration of the 2nd anniversary of
W-Net operation.
11/01/91 W-NET now receives several FidoNet feeds through the 007LZ
BBS gateway. HAL 9000 adds an unprecedented fourth modem
node. W-NET now supports Kmail AND NetMail5.0 through the
HAL 9000 and Wright Place hubs. HAL 9000 goes to v.32bis
on Node #2 for 14,400 baud mail transfers.
12/01/91 All FidoNet feeds, except for a special OS/2 conference are
disconnected by popular demand. A special conference,
SEMSOG_1, is added for the SouthEastern Michigan Systems
Operators Group.
01/22/92 Added SEMSOG_2 conference and special FidoNet feed to their
PCBoard support echo. HAL 9000 finally gets KMail installed
on all four modem nodes, which will be going v.32bis/v.42bis
by the end of the month. W-NET enters its fourth calendar
year of operation, hooray!
04/15/92 Added SEMSOG_3 conference and special FidoNet feed to their
PCBoard support echo. HAL 9000 upgrades hard disk storage
from 330 megabytes to 1.5 gigabytes. WNET goes international
again with Gord Saker in London, Ontario Canada. WNET
expands further into the Great Lakes by adding new systems in
Michigan. Our Michigan coverage now consists of Ann Arbor,
Ypsilanti, Freeport, Flint, and Detroit. I ditched WNET.DIR
because nobody was keeping it up to date.
06/11/92 Added RLY-Support conference so W-NET joins the big network
leagues in carrying Tech Support directly from SALT AIR BBS
(The Home of PCBoard). All Sysops with active support
contracts are encouraged to use it to its fullest!
08/01/92 Added Qedit conference for supporting users of the popular
Qedit software. Direct link to shareware authors!
10/01/92 Internet/Usenet news and E-mail conferences added. Now
You can access the largest conference network in the world!
01/20/93 Internet/Usenet news expanded to 170 conferences worth of
coverage. Anyone who calls is automatically granted an
E-mail box addressed in the following defined format:
"first.lastname@hal9k.ann-arbor.mi.us"
You can send E-mail out to anywhere in the world, including
CompuServe, MCI Mail, AT&T Mail, and Fidonet.
